QUEEN

Limited Edition Collector’s Box Set Volume 3

(Hollywood)

The final box set celebrating Queen’s 40th anniversary gathers the band’s last five albums, which they recorded from 1984 until Freddie Mercury’s death in 1991. (Made in Heaven, from 1995, was completed using leftover vocals and song sketches.) Even the group’s most passionate fans will tell you that they’re not their best records. Only 1984’s The Works, which includes the minor hits “Radio Gaga” and “I Want to Break Free,” contains a glimmer of their old flashy spirit. By the time they got around to Innuendo (which came out the year Mercury died), they were running on empty. Each album contains a disc of bonus material ranging from live cuts to B-sides and remixes that do little to salvage their sorry reputations.
