The Rapture

In the Grace of Your Love

(DFA)

It’s been almost a decade since NYC indie-rock trio the Rapture redefined artsy dance-punk for the new millennium with their excellent single “House of Jealous Lovers.” Now in their thirties and back from a five-year break (and also back with James Murphy’s DFA), the Rapture aim to make up for both lost time and cred-draining missteps on their third album. But aside from a couple of beat-driven dance-floor jams, In the Grace of Your Love never quite finds its footing. Back in the day, frontman Luke Jenner would get worked up over the smallest thing, pushing his voice to the cracking point. Only opener “Sail Away” and the piano-guided “How Deep Is Your Love?” channel these past anxieties. “Don’t ever look back,” Jenner sings in “Sail Away.” Dude, maybe you should.
