I’m Still Here (Magnolia)

The week this movie hit theaters, director Casey Affleck finally revealed what many people suspected: actor Joaquin Phoenix’s public meltdown was a hoax. The film documents the Oscar nominee’s announcement two years ago that he was giving up acting for rapping and follows him along on a series of increasingly bizarre side trips (including an infamous appearance on David Letterman’s show). Seen now as a sort-of comedy vérité, I’m Still Here isn’t nearly as squirm inducing, but it’s still pretty tough to get through at times. Extras include commentary by Affleck and Phoenix and 90-plus minutes of deleted scenes, including more of Phoenix’s dreadful rapping.

Eat Pray Love (Sony)

Good news for fans of Elizabeth Gilbert’s bestseller: the extended Director’s Cut of this Julia Roberts travelogue/love story includes more scenes from the book. The scenery is pretty, but the tale gets bogged down in mushy inspirational hoo-hah. So do the blah extras.

The Expendables (Lionsgate)

Sylvester Stallone’s summer comeback is dripping with testosterone. Sly and a bunch of mercenary buddies (including Dolph Lundgren, Steve Austin, and other guys you didn’t know were still alive) hunt down a bloodthirsty dictator. Explosions ensue, bodies pile up.

Michael Jackson’s Vision (Epic/Legacy)

All of Michael Jackson’s music videos – excuse me, short films – are gathered for the first time on this terrific three-disc set. Best are Martin Scorsese’s 18-minute urban epic “Bad” and the dancing monsters of “Thriller,” still one of the all-time greats.
