LES SAVY FAV

Root for Ruin

(Frenchkiss)

Don’t let the Rhode Island School of Design degrees fool you — Les Savy Fav are way tougher than most of their Brooklyn-based peers. On their fifth album, they tear through a set of tuneful punk songs about dirty thoughts, dirty sex, and dirty people. Root for Ruin indeed. There’s occasional weariness in frontman Tim Harrington’s voice, as if the twisters of noise Les Savy Fav set free on these 11 songs don’t tell the whole story. In the best cuts – “Appetites,” “Let’s Get Out Of Here,” “High And Unhinged” – the group sounds simultaneously hungry and stuffed as they march down the road to ruin.
