Piranha: Special Edition Blu-ray

(Shout! Factory)

Just in time for the bloody 3-D remake opening next week, Roger Corman’s 1978 low-budget Jaws rip-off comes to Blu-ray in a set that includes tons of extras. There’s behind-the-scenes footage, outtakes, and, best of all, scenes that were added to the TV version. The movie is a whole lotta fun too, especially when hungry fish attack stupid people. Bite that, 3-D remake!

Miles Davis: Bitches Brew: Legacy Edition

One of the most influential albums ever made celebrates its 40th anniversary with a three-disc set that includes two CDs and one DVD. (It’s also available in a pricier Collector’s Edition version, which adds a CD of previously unreleased music.) The outtakes and the DVD’s concert are cool supplements, but the original jazz-fusion classic still resonates. Bitchin’!

The Film Noir Classic Collection: Volume 5

The latest four-disc box of classic noir movies from the ’40s and ’50s is filled with the usual mix of tough dames, hotheaded mooks, and enough cigarette smoke to choke Montana. There’s style and substance to spare in these eight films. Best is Crime in the Streets, a 1956 youthploitation movie starring John Cassavetes as a gang leader plotting to kill a nosy neighbor.

Looney Tunes Super Stars: Bugs Bunny Hare Extraordinaire; Daffy Duck Frustrated Fowl

The first two collections in a new series of never-before-released-on-DVD cartoons spotlight Looney Toons’ two biggest stars. The Bugs Bunny set has 15 shorts, including “Lumber Jack-Rabbit,” the only Looney Tune made in 3-D. The 15 Daffy Duck toons come with a warning that they’re for adults. Grandpa thought the sexual and racial stereotypes killed back in the day.

This PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360 shooter plays a lot like BioShock. Even if it never reaches that level of brilliance, there’s plenty to like here. For one thing, there’s a time-travel element that affects gameplay across eras. And you get to take out enemies with a flick of your wrist. That’s cool. Plus, the multiplayer includes deathmatches without the pesky story. That’s also cool.
